Choosing the right size for your woven label is one of the most important decisions in the ordering process. Too small and your brand name becomes unreadable; too large and the label dominates the garment. Here is how to get it right.
Standard woven label sizes
Most clothing brands order woven labels between 1 inch and 3 inches wide. A very common all-round size is 2 inches wide by 0.5 inches high — large enough for a brand name in a clean, readable font, small enough to sit neatly inside a collar or side seam.
Typical use cases:
- Neck labels: 1.5″ – 2.5″ wide, 0.5″ – 0.75″ high
- Size and care labels: 1″ – 2″ wide, often longer to fit washing instructions
- Hem or sleeve labels: 1″ – 1.5″ wide, small and subtle
- Hang-tag style woven labels: 2″ – 3″ wide for extra design space
What affects the ideal size
Text length. A short brand name fits comfortably on a 2-inch label. A longer name plus a tagline needs more width or a second line.
Fold type. Folded labels lose visible area to the fold itself. A center-fold label shows only half its total width once folded, so size your artwork for the folded dimensions, not the flat ones. Read our fold types guide for details.
Readability. As a rule of thumb, keep lettering at least 3–4 mm tall. Anything smaller risks blurring in the weave, especially with serif or script fonts.
How to measure
Cut a piece of paper to your candidate size and pin or tape it where the label will sit on the garment. Check it in a mirror from a normal viewing distance. If you can read it easily, the size works.

For most fonts, 1 inch wide by 0.4 inches high is the practical minimum. Below that, only very short text in a bold, simple font stays legible.
Does the fold change the label size I should order?
Yes. Order by the flat size, but design for the folded size. A 2″ × 1″ label with a center fold shows a 2″ × 0.5″ face. Tell us your fold type and we will set the artwork up correctly.
Can I get a custom size that is not standard?
Absolutely. Woven labels are made to order, so any width and height works. Custom sizes cost the same as standard ones at the same quantity.
